Newport Crab Report

Made another trip crabbing at Newport in December, the 6 th to be exact. Left at "O" dark thirty and got to the ramp about 5:30 am. Got launched and pots in the water at 6:00. About at 6:30 made my first pull. Nothing but little ones! Re-set the pots, next pull netted two keepers. It went on like that for the whole day. I would say it was slow. Not a lot of tide movement. I did get my limit, but it took eight hours to do it. The crab where from just legal (2) TO 6 1/2". Had two that where 88% full and the rest where 95% to 100% full. Nice crab. It was about the the same for the other boats, some would get them and others not. I tried all over the bay. No hot spots. No wind, fogging all day but not cold.
